Browsing through Early Music, with a focus on Masses. Due to Candlemas, we will hear parts from Monteverdi’s Marian Vespers, in versions from 1610 and 1650.
In this hour, we will hear two versions of Monteverdi’s ‘Vespro della Beata Vergine’ performed by Apollo’s Fire conducted by Jeannette Sorrell (1610) and La Capella Ducale & Musica Fiata conducted by Roland Wilson (1650). Wilson uses the 1650 publication of Vincenti with late motets by Monteverdi, thus creating a reconstruction of the “alternative” Marian Vespers.
