In this programme we'll be covering the presentation of the book "Stuwdammen en wegen in het Surinaamse binnenland " in Literaire Reisboekhandel Evenaar in Amsterdam.
The book describes a journey by a Dutch journalist and a scientist in a small boat to find out how well-informed the local population of Wajana and Trios indian tribes were over plans for a flood control dam and roads which would have grave consequences for their lifestyle. It is clear that many of them were opposed to the plans once they discovered them. A very exciting book about the difficult trip with many beautiful photographs.
At the end of the book it's not clear whether the plans will go through. The Bouterse government has cancelled them for the moment, but could they still happen in 2015 ?
