Pierre Courbois, the greatest jazz drummer in the Netherlands, a man whose significance extends far beyond the world of drums, deserved his own festival. This festival happened in 2007.
At the festival, Courbois played in four very different combinations, exploring four different styles. As half of the Gong Duo, he dived into classic bebop. With the Waterland Trio, he made modern minimal-jazz, the Five-Fourths Sextet explored unusual time signatures, and as part of the Courhof Trio, he played free jazz with pop influences. So there’s something for everyone, and as far as we’re concerned, they’re all equally successful. So convince yourself of the great class and versatility that the man showed here in three days!
