Special crossover music: Tiny Moore & Jethro Burns – the mandolin in jazz.

In both folk and classical music, plucking the strings of a mandolin has been a familiar sound for centuries. In pop and jazz however, this instrument never became generally accepted, Although Robbie van Leeuwen made a serious attempt with the band Galaxy-Lin, after Shocking Blue was dissolved. Tiny Moore and Jethro Burns – both from 1920 – were pioneers concerning jazz on the mandolin. Burns played the usual eight-string mandolin, Moore played an unusual variant with five single strings instead of four pairs. Moreover, Moore developed the first electric mandolin without hollow body. In this episode, you hear music of their classic album Back to Back from 1979.
