The Palace of Nostalgia

sat 22 aug 2020 20:00 hour

Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.

The weekly music museum. This week with Roy Orbison and his endearing song dedicated to his mother. Also Europe’s best harmonica group, the Hotcha Trio from Rotterdam. Then the violin player who was inspired by Louis Armstrong’s trumpet music: Stuff Smith.

Charlie Barnet became known due to his many marriages (eleven in total), his startling swing and his wealth, through which he could afford to follow his whimsy.
Also: Ella Fitzgerald on her Cole Porter Songbook, Peggy Lee, Les Paul & Mary Ford, Wynton Marsalis with Bobby McFerrin

A sweet love song by Louis Davids, we hear the German Friedel Hensch with a song that everybody knows from Corry Brokken.
Additionally, nightclub singer and actress Dorothy Dandridge with a song that overflows of melancholy, a rendez-vous by moonlight by Luis Mariano and France Aubert. Also Patti Page, not about dogs in a shop window, but instead with a sad song about absence, and then also the delighted Nat King Cole.
And lastly, because of the warm weather a reprise by Bernhard Etté’s Tanzorchester:  passionate about Italian sunshine.
