Live recordings of Oum by Concertzender on 28 February 2020 (part 2).
On 28 February 2020, before the coronavirus lockdown, a concert of the Moroccan singer / songwriter Oum El Ghaït Bentel Sahrawy, better known as Oum, took place. She performed in Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht. Oum is one of the greatest stars of North Africa, and broke through internationally with a colourful mix of very different musical elements: modern soul, jazz, bossanova and gnawa (Moroccan desert blues). In August 2019, Oum released her third international album, Daba, recorded in Berlin with her band and the Palestinian singer and Ud player Kamilya Jubran.
During the concert, Oum presents this album.
Part 1 was broadcast earlier, on 21 March last and can be heard here.
Oum sings about the fate of migrants, the position of women, and about nature. The melodic lines are played by Yacir Rami on the ud, a string instrument from the Middle East. Camille Passeri’s playing the trumpet evokes associations with Ibrahim Malouf.
Instrumentation:
Oum, vocals
Carlos Mejias Nuevas Perez, saxophone and electronics
Camille Passen, trumpet
Yacir Rami, ud
