On our way to the unknown (less known). Today we present chamber music of Vinzenz Lachner.
This is the last of the series of broadcasts about the composing Lachner brothers. Today the programme is about the youngest brother: Vinzenz.
Vinzez was born in 1811 in the Bavarian town of Rain am Lech (Germany). After completing the gymnasium in Augsburg, he taught music to the children of a Polish count for a while. In 1832 he left for Vienna, where he became assistant Kapellmeister at Kärntnertortheater. In 1836 he succeeded his brother Franz as Kapellmeister at Hoftheater in Mannheim, where he stayed until 1873. He retired early because of a quarrel with Wagner followers in town. Until he died in 1893, he lived in Karlsruhe, where he was a teacher at the local academy of music for a while.
Vinzez Lachner wrote many choral works and songs, but also music for piano, chamber ensembles and orchestras.
