Music for Leisure
Ensemble Hermes is a small choir consisting of 8 singers led by Jeroen Spitteler. They performed in the Couleur Vocale series in the Waalse church in Amsterdam on 29 October. Their concert was titled ‘Doppio Orfeo’, two Orfeos. A cooperation between Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck and the Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi. Both represented the same European music culture. And in a time period where polyphony slowly converts into a style which is now know as Baroque both were looking for something new and fresh.
With this programme the Ensemble Hermes investigates the differences and the similarities between the two composers.
