The American jazz piano player Phineas Newborn Jr. (1931-1989). He can be placed in late ‘swing’ with features of ‘hard bop’. Due to his chronic health problems he never really broke through, but the experts value his tasteful ideas and sparkling technique. He didn’t release many albums but his available material is of a high level. Recordings from 1956 and 1958 – solo, trio and quartet.
