Samba now and then (part1).
When you say Brazil, you really say: soccer, carnival and samba!
Samba probably came into being in the early 20th century in the state Bahia. The rhythm of samba originates from Africa. The name is probably derived from the Angolan word semba, what means religious rhythm. Composers like Pixinguinha, Noel Rosa and Ari Barroso were the first to make samba the popular music style from Brazil. From the 80’s on different variations of the ‘standard’ samba arose, like Pagode and Samba reggae.
