An old LP-cover dug out of the Concertzender archives. Alhaji K. Frimpong
For the Ghanese Highlife lovers: here is the cassette of Alhaji K. Frimpong. The title-song ‘Kyenkyen Bi Adi Mawu’ was an immense hit in Ghana in the seventies and is still sampled by Ghanaian rappers. The song is also on many compilation CD’s with funky tunes from West Africa. The cassette seems to be reissued on CD in 1998, but is no longer available.
After Alhaji K. Frimpong we will play a few songs from the CD ‘Sibeba’ (1995) from Hijas del Sol (From Spanish: "Daughters of the Sun"), a singing duo from Equatorial Guinea, featuring Piruchi Apo Botupá and Paloma Loribo Apo. Piruchi is the aunt of Paloma. They have a characteristic, sharp two-part style of singing and sing in Bubi and Spanish.
