Bonum Est

Bonum Est: a programme on Gregorian Chant. Eastern Liturgies 7: The Greek Byzantine Choir.

In the 76th episode of Bonum Est you will hear Byzantine hymns from the Eastern Orthodox tradition.
Since the Schism of 1054, a whole other music history was written in the east compared to the music history in the west. In the west, polyphony was slowly given full reign. In the east the unchanged traditional models remained all-decisive.
After the fall of Constantinople in 1453, the Byzantine tradition became entirely isolated from the west.
