Schubert’s works for piano four-hand, number 5.
In today’s episode, we’ll listen to the fifth episode in a series of programmes in which we’ll showcase all of the piano four-hand works by Franz Schubert.
This episode features the Sonata in C major, D812, nicknamed the ‘Grand Duo’. Schubert wrote this piece during a stay at the Esterházy family estate in June of 1824. However, it was only published as the Grand Duo in 1837, nine years after Schubert’s passing.
The Grand Duo is also played by a ‘Grand Duo’: pianists Sviatoslav Richter and Benjamin Britten.
