Radio Romantica

mon 30 aug 2021 12:00 hour
Composer: Johannes Brahms

Musical Romanticism, explored by Pieter de Oude.

An hour long of chamber music from one of the grandmasters in that ares: Johannes Brahms. Much of his music in small ensembles was written on his holiday in Thun, Switzerland. He travelled there by train almost every summer and so, in 1886, three important works were born: his cello sonata op.99, the violin sonata op.100 and the trio op.101. The second violin sonata is full of references to songs, which also came to life in the Swiss sunshine. The piece is played for you by the illustrious duo Alina Ibragimova and Cédric Tiberghien, who together have flown around the world a few times. The rest of Radio Romantica is for Brahms’ first piano quartet. A piece full of youthful hubris and crammed full of ideas and just as many musical effects. It is played for you by the German Fauré Quartet, which in the 25 years of its existence has also filled the concert halls of Buenos Aires, Seattle, Amsterdam and Tokyo.
