Thursday 2 February is Candlemas, a Christian feast that celebrates the presentation of Jesus at the Temple. On Thursday 2 February, Bach ad Infinitum at 13:00 CET and The Early Garden at 20:00 CET will both present music associated with Candlemas.
In Bach ad Infinitum you can listen to 3 versions of the cantata “Ich habe genu(n)g” BWV 82 by Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach wrote a number of cantatas for Candlemas and this is the most well-known. The three different versions were written for bass, alto and soprano.
The programme is broadcast on February 2 and is repeated on February 3.
The Early Garden is broadcasting two versions of ‘Vespro della Beata Vergine’ (Vespers for the Blessed Virgin) by Claudio Monteverdi. Apollo’s Fire led by Jeannette Sorrell performs the version from 1610. La Capella Ducale & Musica Fiata led by Roland Wilson uses de version published by Vincenti in 1650 that includes some additional late motets by Monteverdi to give a performance of the ‘alternative’ Vespers for the Blessed Virgin.
