Contemporary Music | Paul Glazier

fri 14 oct 2016

Contemporary Music on Sunday 16 October 17.00 CET features the composer Paul Glazier. His compositions combine a variety of sounds to create a world in which short sonic stories can be heard.

This is episode 20 of our series that looks at the current generation of Dutch composers.  Who influences them? What are their most important sources of inspiration? And what is their motivation?
Each programme includes a recent work by one of these composers together with a work that has been an important source of inspiration. Finally, we ask them to chose a work by another composer, who in turn becomes the subject of the next programme in the series. In this way, the series is building up a canon of Dutch contemporary composers.

This time: Paul Glazier.

Paul Glazier was born in London in 1965 and studied visual art at Goldsmiths College. He moved to Amsterdam in 1994 and since then has extended his artistic activities to include music and sound.

His approach to composing reveals his background as a visual artist. Form, colour and texture form his starting point. From here he builds a world of sound in which the listener can hear many different stories being told.

Paul is also a member of Monotak, a composers collective based in Amsterdam, that is investigating the possibilities of translating this process to live performances.
